The purpose of the preliminary task is to learn different techniques on how to operate and use the two cameras to film the opening of the thriller. During this task different people had different roles for example Gizem and Amani were the two characters in the 30 second filming. We had the chance to use the cameras and experiment by using various camera techniques. Which includes angles, sizes and movements.
The 30 second clip allowed use to see how we work together and use software's which would be useful when we start to film the opening scene for out thriller.
We decided for our 30 second clip to take place in school. In this scene the two characters are talking about how their subjects are going and what they find difficult. In this scene we discussed what techniques we could use which made the scene more effective, for example the point of view shots and over the shoulder shots. We also acknowledged that there would be a variety of editing techniques in which we could add to the footage.
From the preliminary task we learnt that there are many different essentials that we had to consider in order to make our thriller conventional to a thriller genre. Some of the shots that we tried in the clip allowed use to see how it would look before the actual filming process. From the preliminary task we learned that we should give about 4 seconds before the scene actually starts, this gives us some footage that we can crop out or edit at the end. This would allow us to have a better opening scene at the end.
In addition there were some difficulties that we have faced in the preliminary task. In this task we had some scenes that started too early and some scenes started too late. I think that this was a communication problem between the actors and the camera operators. This problem was solved near the end of the scenes as we planned to give four seconds filming space and allow the characters to start after this time.
Furthermore, we were effected by the external factors. For example during the filming we had some students coming into the classroom to collect things. This effected the filming as we had to stop because of the sound. In this case as a group we had to be patient and concentrate on the task. These scenes were edited and taken out.
After the filming of the 30 second filming we had to edit the shots by using ' Final cut pro' programme. This allowed us to experience how to use the new editing techniques. The main editor was Hazal in this task but the task was shared by other members of the group to help Hazal and make group agreements on what looks better. This task enabled Hazal to develop her editing skills before the actual thriller scene task. This means that we will save time in the future when editing.
Conclusion:
This task has been essential in creating our thriller because of a number of reasons. I'm now aware of the major difficulties that we might face when carrying out the filming and editing process for our thriller opening. I was able to use different angles and sizes when using the camera. I think that all of the things that we have done in this task allowed me to have a clear understanding of what I could use. Based on this task we were able to see if the locations of the thriller production is suitable.

There are some bits of this post that are really good - just need to make sure it fits the sturcutre of the post set so you cover all the corrects points...
ReplyDeleteNeed to work on/add/improve:
- Group roles
- Difficulties you encountered whilst editing (screen shots of final cut?)
- What have you learned?
Conclusion: How has the task beneficial?
